Parents - Health and Wellbeing
Learning, health and wellbeing are inextricably linked - students learn best when they are healthy and their wellbeing is optimised, and they develop a strong sense of wellbeing when they experience success in learning.
Medical records and plans
Help us to keep our medical records up to date. Please complete the Medical record form at the start of every year and when any changes have occurred. If your child requires an Emergency Action Plan or has a serious medical condition, please consult the Deputy Principal immediately and arrange a time to formulate the Action Plan.
Staff are not permitted to dispense prescribed medicines to children without a completed Administration of Medication Form by a parent/guardian. Available for download below. All prescription medications must be kept by the front office to ensure it is not taken incorrectly or by another student.
We have limited facilities for treating illnesses at school. For the safety and health of your child, other students and staff, parents are asked not to send unwell children to school. When children do become ill at school every effort will be made to contact the parents or the emergency contact person to have the child picked up. We would appreciate prompt collection of your child in these circumstances.
Infectious Diseases
Pinjarra Primary School follows the Department of Health’s Communicable Disease Guidelines in dealing with infectious diseases. Please contact the school office if your child has been diagnosed with an infectious disease.
Children who are not fully immunised have a high risk of contracting serious infectious diseases. Children commencing school should already have received their measles and mumps injection and their booster immunisation against diphtheria, tetanus and polio.
Community Health Nurse
A Community Health Nurse will work in our school to carry out periodical medical checks on children throughout the school year. If your child has any particular problem you will be notified.
Dental Health
A school's Dental Clinic operates at the school. There are no charges for inspection and simple level of operations; however, consent forms from parents are required before children can participate. All enquiries should be directed to the Clinic on 9531 1846.
Head Lice
Unfortunately, we do have outbreaks of head lice in the school. Head lice do not discriminate. Whether your child’s hair is long, short, clean or dirty, many families will deal with head live at some point of time. Head lice are common in schools where large groups of children interact and parents are urged to carefully check their children's hair for head lice at least weekly. If lice are found, parents can obtain appropriate treatment from the chemist or supermarket, and are asked to advise the school of the discovery. Children may return to school after appropriate treatment. Long hair should be tied back. The school has a Head Lice Policy which outlines treatments and procedures for the control and management of head lice.
Wellbeing - Crunch and Sip
Pinjarra Primary is a Crunch and Sip School. This means that students will be allocated a break time at the class teachers discretion in which they can consume either fruit or vegetables brought into school cut up in a small container. We ask that the fruit be cut up and not whole as this allows for quick eating, no mess with left over peels or cores, and an amount that is enough for a recharge of the batteries. Water bottles are allowed in all classrooms.
