Learning - Inclusive Programs
Pinjarra Primary School runs programs for students with academic, attention, social, emotional and behavioural needs, as well as those who have a diagnosed condition. Two examples of these programs are Big Games Social Skills, Horse Riding through Murray RDA and our School Garden. Students enjoy these programs and gain valuable skills.
Big Games Social Skills
At Pinjarra Primary School we believe that all students feel safe in a supportive and inclusive environment. For students who are struggling to fit into the school yard during break times due to limited social skills, Pinjarra Primary School offers students the opportunity to develop, practice and contextualise these social skills in an engaging, safe environment. Big Games are timetabled for every lunch break where students meet to eat together then enjoy a variety of games that allow for collaborative play and social interaction. During this time, students are encouraged to take greater responsibility for their own play, choices and their independence is fostered and celebrated.
Horse Riding
Pinjarra Primary are fortunate to participate in Riding for the Disabled programme. Lessons are given by accredited coaches. Volunteers help with the riders, drive the RDA, and do the office work and maintenance work on the cottage and grounds. Some of the benefits the students may gain from this programme are improved concentration and self-esteem, increased coordination, strength and balance.
School Garden
Kitchen and food gardens are an alternative way for schools to promote environmental and sustainability learning and connect students with healthy food and lifestyles. There is also significant evidence of outdoor learning and kitchen gardens contributing to improved learning and student behaviour.
