News & Events - Operation Christmas Child
Pinjarra Primary School has been participating in Operation Christmas Child for a number of years and it has been a great encouragement to see the wonderful support we receive from our local community. Every shoe box is sending a message of hope and letting the children know that they are loved and have not been forgotten.
Operation Christmas Child (OCC) is an international project that delivers millions of Christmas gift-filled shoeboxes to children in desperate situations around the world. OCC supports the Australian curriculum Values in Education by helping students develop an understanding of giving to others less fortunate and in need.
During the year students raise funds by participating in a free dress day, then in Term Three, we encourage families to purchase a new item from each of the following categories:
- Kindy/Pre Primary: Something to Love - e.g. a soft toy
- Year 1 & 2: Something to Wear - e.g. clothing, small pair of thongs, hair pieces, hat
- Year 3 & 4: Something for School - e.g. pencils, pens, small note pad, eraser, sharpener
- Year 5 & 6: Something of Personal Hygiene - e.g. soap, flannel, hair brush, toothbrush (not toothpaste)
- Staff & Volunteers: Something to Play With - e.g. a toy, bouncy ball, tennis ball, doll, hot wheels cars, yo-yos
At the end of term these items are packed into pre printed Christmas shoeboxes and taken to a local drop off point. Samaritan’s Purse collects the boxes during National Collection Month in October and delivers the gifts to children in poverty stricken locations. If all our students bring in 1 item to place inside a show box we will have over 600 amazing gifts.
